From the Sun to the Computer: Archaeological Work after the Excavations

MA course

The course is dedicated to archaeological work after the completion of an excavation in the field: various stages of finds processing, technical and analytical, stratigraphical analysis, selection of finds for digital documentation, drawing and photography, preparation of excavation reports in various scopes, from a short preliminary report to a detailed final publication. We will talk about the selection of publication platforms that are suitable for dry reports and for articles focused on specific findings or cross-sectional topics that can be reached from research done in the field. We will raise questions related to the research collaboration in various fields, including content specialists, such as ceramicists, numismatists, epigraphists, zooarchaeologists, and experts in the core science fields. Apart from the technical aspects, we will discuss the professional rights and moral duties of a modern archaeologist, in the fieldwork and the research.
