Dr. Yana Tchekhanovets

I am an archaeologist, specialized in the Late Antiquity. I obtained my Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with the thesis Armenian, Georgian and Albanian Communities in the Holy Land in the Byzantine and Early Islamic Periods (2016), and later had my postdoctoral training at the Tel Aviv University. My field experience comes from years of archaeological work in Jerusalem and other sites in Northern and Southern Israel, on behalf of Israel Antiquities Authority. My research interests include the archaeology Byzantine and Early Islamic period, Caucasian Christian communities in Byzantine Palestine, monasticism, pilgrimage, and Christian iconography.
In 2017, I started to teach at the Department of Archaeology of the Ben-Gurion University in the Negev and joined the faculty in 2020.
