Material Culture of Neighboring Countries in Classical and Byzantine Periods I: Egypt

The course is dedicated to the material culture of Egypt starting from the Hellenistic period until the end of the Byzantine period and the Muslim conquest. Various aspects related to the culture of Hellenized Egypt, created as a result of the meeting of local traditions with achievements of classical Greek civilization, the contribution of Romanization and the place of the Land of Nile in the development of early Christianity and the monastic movement will be discussed. We will examine in depth the various issues related to city planning, the important archaeological sites for each period, the impact of Egyptian culture on the entire region, and its connections with the Land of Israel.
