MA course

Historical archeology, or archeology of the recent past, explores material culture from the emergence of modern word to the present day. This is one of the vibrant and growing fields in modern archeology, combining the traditional study of material remains with written sources and archival and historical documentation. By its nature, historical archeology deals with the most sensitive issues in modern human history. In Israel, with its unique archaeological record, the archeology of the recent past has long been neglected. Today, important studies are being conducted in Israel related to the study of the "late" periods: the Ottoman period, the British Mandate, and the beginning of the modern Israeli periodThe course will include open discussions and meetings with Israeli archaeologists studying the material remains of the recent past.
